Reassuring Phrases
A simple way to calm yourself down from a distressing situation is to remember some simple reassuring messages. This is useful when you're stressing about something or just can't seem to stop obsessing over an upcoming event. It's also nice to remember these when you feel like you aren't enough.
Here are some messages that help me when I'm anxious or feel bad about something.
"Not everything is black and white." This can help you remember that not everything is "bad" or "good". There's nuance to the world. This includes you, and your relationships.
"Time stop for no one." If you're dreading something it's nice to remember you can't stop whatever it is that's going to happen. There's nothing you can do and therefore you shouldn't stress over it because you can't change how fast time moves. This is also a good message to remember when you're excited about something. Remember time can't change so you'll still have to wait for whatever it is you're excited about no matter what.
"The past is the past." It's good to remember this when you're obsessing over your past mistakes. You can't change what happened in the past, but you can pick how you act today.
"Everyone deserves a second chance." Or "Everyone makes mistakes." This can also help when you're obsessing over past mistakes. Remember everyone makes mistakes and deserves a second chance, including you.
"You tried your best, that's all anyone can ask of you." When standards seem impossibly high and you feel like you'll never reach them despite how hard you try, remember this. All you can do is try your best, if anyone ever asks you for more remember they're asking for too much.
"Nobody's normal." This means that even though many of us strive to be what we think is "normal", normal doesn't actually exist and therefore no one can be normal. Everyone has something that makes them different. What a community considers "normal" is constantly changing depending on economics, age, culture, country, and more.
