Hobbies

Enjoying your hobbies is a great long term coping skill. This can help with major depressive disorder, general anxiety disorder, borderline personality disorder, and many other long term mental health disorders. Unlike our other coping skills this is usually a commitment and not just for extremely alarming situations.

Enjoying your hobbies is an awesome way to stay productive and raise your overall life happiness; however, it can be is difficult to do. There is a reason many people use sleeping as a coping skill when dealing with depression. They can't find motivation to do much of anything and definitely not to dedicate themselves to a long term commitment like a hobby.

That's why we'd recommend small projects you could do on a good day and not something like taking dance classes on Tuesday nights. If you think you're ready, take those dance classes on Tuesday nights, but for many of us that is a large jump in our lives that might take some time to come to terms with.

Art is an awesome hobby because you can start and stop projects when you feel like it. It's a productive way to feel accomplished and get something done. You don't have to face the world and instead can focus on yourself and your art. If art isn't your thing, exercising might be a good choice too. It's easy to do and can be done from the safety of your home. Playing video games is also a good hobbie that many people find enjoyment in.

Happy hobbying!
